2007 National Metro Director: Patrick Knight

Patrick Knight is an attorney in Miami, Florida working as a senior litigation specialist for the UAIC Office of the General Counsel. Originally from Chicago, Patrick has lived in Miami for the past 13 years and recently got married to his wife, Lisa. Patrick graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors of Science in accounting and then attended the University of Miami School of Law, graduating in 1997. He is also a Certified International speaker/trainer who has conducted seminars in 17 different states and 18 foreign countries on a variety of leadership, business, legal and ethics topics.

In JCI, Patrick has been actively involved since joining in 1999. As a local chapter president of the Coconut Grove Jaycees in Miami, he revived the chapter, nearly tripling the membership on route to winning the Marks Award as the Most Outstanding Chapter in the United States. Patrick repeated his stint as Chapter President in 2002 because with 160 of his 204 members being brand new members, there was too much inexperience on the Board. However, these new young leaders continued to grow and train new leaders, repeating the feat of being named the Most Outstanding Chapter in the United States for the second year in a row in 2002.

During this two year run, Patrick was also named Outstanding President in the United States twice and his chapter was recognized as the Most Outstanding Chapter in the Americas (Area C) for 2002. Patrick served as the United States Jaycee National Legal Counsel for 2003 and served as the Membership Vice President in Florida for 2004. He was also selected to be a part of the JCI Strategic Planning Committee in New York in 2004. Currently, Patrick serves on the USJC National Exec Board as the National Metro Director.

Patrick has authored numerous manuals, articles and position papers for JCI and the U.S. Jaycees including: “Jumpstart Your Chapter”, which is a guide for local chapter presidents; “Show Them the Way”, which was a position paper submitted to the JCI Forum for Membership Strategy; “The Leadership Series”, which is a year long series of mini-seminars for local officers; and “Legal Issues for Jaycee Leaders”, which is a manual about legal issues affecting our chapters. He also participated in the course design of the JCI LEAD program.

As a PRIME and EXCEL graduate, Patrick has taught more than 100 seminars all over the world. In addition to being a JCI Certified International Trainer, he was one of 20 young leaders in the world chosen by the 2002 World President Salvi Batlle to be certified as a head trainer for the JCI LEAD Course, which is designed to be the flagship program for leadership development in JCI. He is also a certified JCI ACHIEVE head trainer, PRIME head trainer, and JCI Designer assistant trainer.

He believes this can be accomplished by keeping our best traditions such as being a ‘fun organization’, whose prime mission is to develop our leadership skills by serving the community. He likes to say that inspiration is the highest form of charity. Above all, Mike believes in the line of the Junior Chamber Creed that states, “SERVICE to humanity is the best work of life”.
